The generated curl becomes a seat for pins and is often used to construct hinges from sheet metal. Curling is achieved with the aid of a mold installed on a suitably powerful press. Inside the mold, the sheet metal is constrained in a seat and pushed along a winding path to achieve the desired shape, usually a circular eyelet. The thickness of the sheet metal can vary from a few tenths to several millimeters.
